Great news for the Upcoming FM3 Floor Modeler (And for Everyone Else)
When I first saw this feature in the release notes, I breezed over it until one of the comments mentioned how powerful it was and how excited they were to see this added, so naturally I was curious.
The stand-in switch feature let’s you add an external switch (think small cheap momentary) to an FC-6/12 through one of the 2 switch ports and yes….wait…even to an FM3 in one or both of the provided pedal inputs. Cheap alternative to add extra switches to the unit.
Can’t We All Just Get Along?
When the FM3 announcement came out initially, it was met with mixed reviews. For a majority of existing AX8 users, they were disappointed that it only featured 3 switches and in their minds Fractal was supposed to update the AX8 with something similar…with 8 switches (basically an AX Fx 3 floor unit, albeit with less power). Yes, this would have been great, but it’s NOT happening.
This did not happen, and some people were quick to dismiss the FM3 (PSH!). Forget the “let’s wait and see” attitude.
With the release of Ares firmware 5.07, you can add an external switch and assign it to any switch in any layout and control the units, regardless if that layout is even loaded. What’s even cooler for FC-6 users is that you can even use switches 7-12 to assign a function to the FC-6 (FC-12 users can use 9-12 on the master layout menu). This is a very cool feature!!!!
We all should realize that Fractal is listening and strives to maintain a balance with all the features, at the same time innovating and moving the platform in a forward direction. They are one of the few companies that truly listens to the customer and have been known to quickly add features (sometimes within days) based on customer feedback.
Have you reserved your FM3????
If not, you can do it here
